Case Study: Commercial Site Clearance – Braintree, Essex28th November 2018
Dunmow Waste Management (DWM) based in Chelmsford, offers a wide range of professional waste management services including waste clearance, skip hire, roll-on/roll-off, waste processing and recycling services across the Essex region.
When a local landlord of a large warehouse in Braintree found his long-term tenant, a manufacturer of bespoke furniture go out of business, he was left with a warehouse full of furniture and equipment to clear.
With the contents of the upstairs area having been removed and left outside the main warehouse, it was essential the site was cleared within a short time-frame to avoid disturbance from both animals and trespassers, and as the site was located close to other businesses and a residential area
Dunmow Waste Management was called and our Business Manager – James Burn, met with the client to discuss how Dunmow Waste could help deliver an effective solution to clear both inside the warehouse and the outside area.
With the site comprising of approximately one acre of land, it was agreed that the clearance would form a two-stage process:
- Stage 1: Full clearance of the outside space
- Stage 2: Full clearance of the main workshop/warehouse areas
After a thorough review and proposal submission, Dunmow Waste was awarded the contract to carry out Stage 1 of the site clearance.
With the objective of recycling as much of the waste as possible, a detailed inspection was carried out where the following types of waste were identified:
- Wood – Grades A, B & C
- White Goods
Due to the scope of the site, a ‘Liebherr 906 Tracked Excavator’ was brought in to work with the Roll-On / Roll-Off Skips to support the effective removal of the waste throughout the whole process.
A total of twenty-six, 40-Yard Roll-On / Roll-Off Skips were used to remove the wood, plastics and metal from the site in Braintree, and taken to our recycling centre in Chelmsford for sorting and processing in preparation for recycling.
All White Goods were then carefully removed by the Dunmow Waste ‘We Collect Waste’ team to be disposed of safely and in compliance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive.
With a time-frame of 5 working days, a team of ten colleagues were brought in from all key areas of the business to ensure the effective removal and clean-up of the site.
With the original estimation of 90-95% of all waste cleared to be diverted from landfill, the team exceeded expectations:
- The project was delivered on time and within budget
- A total of 214 tonnes of waste was cleared from the outside area.
- 100% of all metal, wood and plastics cleared were diverted away from Landfill
- 95% of all White Goods cleared were diverted away from Landfill
Our client commented “with such a tight deadline to meet, I have been most impressed with the speed and effectiveness of the Dunmow Team throughout the whole process. This has enabled me to meet my responsibilities as a Landlord with premises situated so close to other businesses.”
